Rescue

This page is available for listing German Shepherd Dogs who need to be re-homed.  The German Shepherd Dog Club of Oregon feels a strong responsibility to assist owners of GSDs in finding homes for dogs they can no longer retain. We will list information provided by the owners. As we do not know the dogs, we cannot guarantee the information.

If you have a dog you are attempting to re-home, please email our web master for details on listing your dog here. This is for rescue dogs and not a "for sale" page. Costs should be limited to spay/neuter costs, donations to a rescue service or shipping costs.

If you are looking for a dog, please consider these dogs. We also suggest you check out http://www.petfinder.com/

Pepper

Pepper is a spayed 2 year old, microchiped, AKC registered. We got her from a breeder we knew who was moving out of state and getting out of the business due to a divorce. According to the breeder she has never had these types of issues. However, we believe that she was kept in her outside kennel and only let out to run/work for short periods of time and then put back in the kennel. She is crate trained and will stay in her crate over night next to my bed with out issue. When we first got her she would also stay in it with out problems, over the past two weeks though she had learned to get out of her crate. We are not sure how she is doing this as it is the type of latch that you have to squeeze together to get the pins to retract out of the holes. She has become very attached to myself and is still shy around my husband, but will come to him if he gets down to her level. When I leave in the morning for work she will pace in front of the door and then run around the house looking for me for about an hour. At this time we can not kennel her outside in our 10x10 kennel with our other dog as she is a climber. We had attached farm fencing to the top for a roof, but she climbs the panels and then sticks her head through the mesh to try and get out. I am deathly afraid that she will get stuck and or worse so I will not put her in there. Yesterday brought the final blow for us though. We had crated her in our room while I was gone for 4 hours. When I got home I found that she had gotten out of her crate and gotten the door to our room shut. In her attempts to get out of our room she ripped out our carpet and padding, knocked the closet door off and ripped the door molding from the wall. If left alone in the house with or without our other dogs with her she will get into the garbage, get stuff out of the sink and potty on the floor (all of which we could deal with, totally not a big thing).

I have a 4 month old son and a 4 year old son and she’s great with them. My 4 year old can take her by the collar and put her out or put her in the crate no problems. She walks very well on a leash and stays by your side, doesn’t pull at all. Needs refresher work on basic commands that we’ve been doing with her and she’s doing very well with it.

If any of us are at home with her she is an angel and will do nothing but sleep if you let her. We love her to death, but have found that we can’t trust her in the house and can’t keep her outside in the kennel. I don’t have the knowledge to deal with separation anxiety issues like this and we can’t keep a dog that is going to be destructive to the house (we rent). I know this is going to take time for her to learn to be ok on her own and there isn’t a magic pill which is why we feel like she would be better suited for someone who was home with her all the time or knew how to help her. I don’t know, we’re totally lost as to what to do, we’d love to keep her but can’t with these issues.    We have a cat that she’s interested in and if she runs she will chase, but I can call her name and she immediately stops and comes to me. We let her roam free in the yard when we are at home and she has never left (we live on a large farm). I have enclosed two pictures of her. She was bitten in the ear as a pup and so her right ear flops down, you can feel the new cartilage and bumps in there, but it does not affect her at all. We have had her for approx. 3 weeks and I spoke to her previous vet and he said she’s absolutely 100% healthy.

Shadow

Shadow is a young slender black Shepherd. He has good energy, a beautiful smile and a friendly personality. He's so attentive, very engaging, social and responsive. He's a dream dog to train and just a beauty to look at. His likes include: playing ball, catching the frisbee, and loves to cuddle next to you after a good exercise to have his belly scratched. He is very intelligent and kind with a big heart. Shadow has learned to obey verbal and non verbal "sit" and "stay" commands, and we are working on "lay"- he'll have that down soon enough! He walks and jogs on a leash like a pro and would likely make a good trail running companion. Shadow is a loving dog that would make a very loyal friend. Since Shadow is a med/large dog, he would benefit from an active family.

The fee to adopt Shadow is $80, plus the cost to neuter. You can meet Shadow at the Hukari Animal Shelter in Odell. 3910 Heron Dr. Hood River, OR.
Adoption hours are: Sat 9-1, Sun 1-4 & Wed 4-7.

Call or e-mail Janette directly with any questions.
