Pepsi needs a Home
Well, she has only been with me for a couple of months, but my brother told me a lot about her and I have gotten to know her pretty will in this short time. She is probably the best behaved dog I have ever been around. When she is in the house, she finds a quiet corner to lie down in, preferably near her people. If you tell her to lay in a certain spot, that is where she will lay. She is very mellow and relaxed in the house. She does not chew anything (except toys that have been given to her) and she does not eat anything. My kids have left thier cereal bowls on the coffee table in the morning and when I got home from work, there was Pepsi laying by the coffee table, and there were the cereal bowls left untouched. She will gladly eat food that is offered to her, though. She was raised around my nephew, who was two when they got her and is now eight. My brother says Sam and his cousins would climb all over her and pull her ears and she was always perfectly gentle with them. My children are 11, 14 and 17 so I haven't seen her with small children. She absolutely loves my kids. She is perfectly potty trained and will not ever go potty in the house. She loves to run around in the back yard, but spends most of her time laying by the patio door looking in and wishing she was inside. She loves to go for rides in the car, and in fact spent her first two days with us riding home from San Diego. She has perfect manners in the car. Pepsi is very submissive and eager to please. When I call her she comes to me and sits down and looks up at me waiting for a command or attention. She is very intelligent. My brother says she chewed on a shoe once as a puppy. He took it from her and bopped her on the nose with it and she never touched a shoe again. She is very loving and just wants to be loved back.
Now for her quirks. She is vocal. She is not an excessive barker, in fact she hardly ever barks. She will bark at a stranger if he/she tries to come in the yard without being invited by a family member. If she is introduced, she welcomes anyone. But, she barks with excitement when I come home from work. My brother calls her the rowrowrow girl because thats what she says when she is excited. It seems like she is trying to talk to me. She does like to dig, so probably would not do well in a perfectly manicured yard. She was never on a leash until I got her. She does well sometimes and sometimes she pulls. We are working on that. She used to live on a small acreage in San Diego where she kept the property free of rabbits. The reason we can't keep her: she has not done well with my little pug who is about the size of Pepsi's head. Mazie, the pug, wants to play all the time and constantly jumps all over Pepsi. I think Pepsi understands that hyper behavior is not allowed in the house so she growls at her and pins her when she gets all excited. Mazie doesn't learn and keeps coming back for more. Finally one day Pepsi went for her. She picked Mazie up in her mouth and shook her. I have been keeping them separated ever since unless I am right there within reach. Pepsi has not even growled at Mazie since, probably because I stand there and give her the evil eye. She really wants to please. I don't know how she would do with a larger or more respectful dog, but I would feel safest if she was in a home where she was the only dog. Mazie is fine, by the way, but it really scared us. Pepsi will not bother the cat if I tell her not to, but I would hate to see what would happen if the cat were to wander into the back yard when Pepsi is out there by herself. When we are out on walks and she sees cats her ears perk up and she really looks like she wants to chase them.
Pepsi is about 6 years old and she is spayed. I don't know how caught up she is with her shots. She is a really big girl. My brother says she weighs 90 pounds, though I haven't weighed her. We lovingly call her moose. :-) Oh, and she does have a hip that bothers her from time to time. I know that was a lot of information. Maybe you could condense it down into the important stuff? Thank you so much for your help. Although I have only had her for a short time, I really love her and want her to have a good forever home.
